Lynne Freeman, PhD., LMFT, has specialized in the treatment of anxiety disorders for over thirty years. While pursuing her undergraduate degree in psychology, Dr. Freeman experienced her first panic attack which eventually developed into agoraphobia. After several years of intensive therapy, Dr. Freeman did not experience any improvement or a decrease in anxiety symptoms. She ascertained what limited information was available to treat anxiety and developed her own techniques to recover. She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Antioch University at Los Angeles and obtained her doctoral degree in Health Administration. Dr. Freeman is licensed as a marriage and family therapist. Her personal understanding of anxiety, coupled with her professional experience, resulted in the establishment of Open Doors Institute in 1989. Open Doors Institute was comprised of a network of anxiety specialists utilizing Dr. Freeman’s specialized treatment approaches.
Dr. Freeman went on to publish Panic Free: Eliminate Anxiety/Panic Attacks Without Drugs and Take Control of Your Life in 1995, which received wide ranging recognition from the mental health community and endorsed by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. Dr. Freeman also specializes in working with individuals and families dealing with chronic illness. She is a certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and a member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, International OCD Foundation, and the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. She lectures extensively to psychotherapists, colleges and universities, and has been a frequent guest on both radio and television.
